Dr. Peter du Pont has more than thirty years' experience designing, implementing, and evaluating sustainable energy policies and programs in the United States and Asia. He has extensive experience working on assignments related to the design, implementation, and evaluation of clean energy policy and plans, energy finance, and climate change programs for multilateral and bilateral agencies including the Asian Development Bank (ADB), US Agency for International Development (USAID), US Department of State, The World Bank, United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), Danish International Development Assistance (DANIDA), the German development agency GIZ, The Asia Foundation, and the European Climate Foundation.
He is Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Asia Clean Energy Partners, an international consultancy that provides insights, analysis, and program management for clients at international financial and development institutions, philanthropic foundations, and the private sector. Since 2007, he has served as Co-Chair and Senior Advisor of the Asia Clean Energy Forum, working for both ADB and USAID.
In the area of clean energy finance, Dr. du Pont co-founded the Private Financing Advisory Network (PFAN) in Asia in 2009, and currently serves as its Southeast Asia Regional Coordinator. PFAN is an international network of climate and clean energy experts which has originated and advised more than 1,400 SME projects in 41 countries around the world since 2006, helping them raise more than $3.36 billion of investment. In this capacity, Dr. du Pont oversees a team of 25 finance and business experts across 8 countries, providing advisory services in business plan development, marketing strategy, gender action plan development, financial modeling and structuring, and investment facilitation.
Earlier in his career, Dr. du Pont served as Senior Climate Change Advisor for USAID's Regional Development Mission in Bangkok (2016–2017), where he oversaw a portfolio of more than $50 million in climate programs covering clean energy, sustainable landscapes, and urban adaptation and resilience. He also served as Vice President at Nexant (2011–2015), leading the firm's clean energy business across Asia for clients including USAID, ADB, and the International Energy Agency. From 2006 to 2011, he was Chief of Party for the USAID ECO-Asia Clean Development and Climate Program at International Resources Group, managing a $16 million regional initiative that spearheaded the launch of PFAN in Asia and co-founded the Asia Clean Energy Forum in partnership with ADB. Prior to this, he served as Director for Asia at Danish Energy Management (2001–2006) and as Project Manager and then Managing Director of Asia at the International Institute for Energy Conservation (1991–2001).
Dr. du Pont has served as Co-Chair of the Asia Clean Energy Forum since its inception in 2007, working with ADB to co-organize this premier annual regional event on clean energy technology, policy, and finance.
