Yi ZHANG is the project coordinator for the two thematic areas (Smart Energy and Industrial Decarbonization) of Accelerate-to-Demonstrate (A2D) Facility at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Headquarters in Vienna, Austria. Before joining A2D Facility, she worked with the Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence Strategy Division at UNIDO as an international expert on innovation and technologies. Prior to her tenure at UNIDO, she dedicated many years in Nairobi, Kenya, working with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) on innovation projects and research. Her work covered various areas, including sustainable urban development, green infrastructure, renewables, local economic development, big data and innovation technologies, urban monitoring and index, biodiversity statistics, and more. Other previous roles include working as a Research & Development engineer in green facility management and as a research assistant in green building and energy simulation areas. Yi ZHANG holds a Master in Engineering (environmental) with a research focus on renewable energy and energy efficiency from University of Melbourne.
