Background
Despite the promise of a worldwide green recovery in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, a historic opportunity has been lost. REN21’s Renewables 2022 Global Status Report (GSR 2022) sends a clear warning that the global clean energy transition is not happening, making it unlikely that the world will be able to meet critical climate goals this decade.
At ACEF, REN21 will bring together multiple stakeholders and perspectives to discuss the findings from the GSR 2022 in the context of Asia. The objective is to look at where we currently stand on renewable energy, the barriers and opportunities (drivers) to increased renewable energy uptake.
Objectives
This Side Event will have the following primary objectives:
- What has emerged after two years of pandemic and in the light of the current energy crisis?
- What were the missed opportunities?
- What is the role of renewables in the current context such as ensuring energy sovereignty, energy security, and controlling the volatility of prices etc.
