Background

Faced with more prominent consequences of climate change, and extreme climate events, the Southeast Asia countries have been working closely with the Asian Development Bank to promote and implement innovative approaches for integrated solutions to transition to lower carbon and sustainable energy future for each country and for the region.

The event will be a platform for dialogues among the utility managers, energy regulators, renewable energy investors, and practitioners on energy transition with the focus on climate change mitigation, renewable energy development, energy efficiency, and application of energy transition mechanism to phase out coal-fired power generating capacities.

Objectives

To showcase the ADB cross-sectoral collaboration and close cooperation with clients in providing support to the Climate Change program in the Philippines; the Energy Transition Development program in Cambodia, Viet Nam, and the push for energy efficiency in the Greater Mekong subregion.

    (The presentation will focus on Cambodia's efforts to establish a policy framework to support the uptake of energy efficiency. It will provide an overview of energy sector trends in Cambodia and how energy efficiency will support future developments in the sector as well as the energy transition. The forthcoming National Energy Efficiency Policy and long-term Power Development Masterplan will also be highlighted. Lastly, the presentation will briefly introduce the Energy Transition Sector Development Program that the Ministry of Mines and Energy is currently developing with the assistance of ADB, which will support the roll-out of energy efficiency investments in Cambodia)
