Spotlight Session
Harnessing Pumped Storage Hydro for Sustainable Energy Solutions
Organized by: Asian Development Bank (ADB)
Thursday, 6 June 2024
9:00 - 10:30 a.m. (GMT +8) | Multi-Function Hall 2
Countries in Asia have made ambitious targets towards clean energy transition. Accelerating the energy transition calls for enhancing flexibility in energy systems and pushing boundaries to increase the penetration of renewables to meet these targets. Hydropower has played an important role in providing clean energy for decades but storage and pump storage hydropower presents significant potential to contribute to clean energy transition. However, project readiness, environment and social safeguards and also financing are the challenges being faced. This will require countries, among others, to establish suitable policies and an enabling environment as well as mobilize public and private capital to promote such projects.
