Kiran Sabbineni is a Power Systems and Grid Operations expert with over 15 years of international experience spanning Asia, the Pacific, and North America. Currently serving as the Lead Specialist – Energy at the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), Kiran focuses on advancing power system resilience to ensure energy infrastructure can withstand increasing climate-related disruptions. Throughout his career, Kiran has led high-impact technical assistance programs for development partners including USAID, the EU, and the World Bank. He has extensive experience in Southeast Asia, where he has focused on power system planning and regional integration. Notably, his work includes conducting integration analyses for the LTMS (Lao PDR-Thailand-Malaysia-Singapore) and optimizing hydro-dominated systems in Laos. His portfolio also includes utility performance turnaround initiatives in Afghanistan, Cambodia, Papua New Guinea and India. Kiran is highly proficient in advanced modeling tools including PLEXOS, PSSE, and Power Factory, using them to design operational strategies and evaluate complex cross-border power flows. A strong advocate for capacity building, he has developed and delivered training for utility engineers on grid stability and variable renewable energy (VRE) integration. Kiran holds a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, specializing in Power System Analysis and Smart Grids.
