Joao Aleluia

João Aleluia is an Energy Specialist with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), currently outposted to its Resident Mission in Cambodia, where he leads the management of ADB’s energy sector portfolio in the country. João has over 18 years of experience in the fields of sustainable energy, climate change, and waste management, with a strong track record across both international organizations and the private sector. Prior to joining ADB, João served as Regional Technical Advisor at the UNFCCC, focusing on carbon pricing instruments and market-based mechanisms in Asia and the Pacific. His earlier career includes roles as a program coordinator with UN-ESCAP and as the managing director of a Beijing-based start-up developing greenhouse gas emission reduction projects in China. João holds a Ph.D. in Sustainable Energy Systems from the MIT Portugal Program (2018), a Master’s in Energy Management from ESCP-EAP Business School (Paris, 2008), and an MSc in Engineering and Industrial Management from the University of Lisbon (2004).
