Javid Abdullayev
Director of the Agency,
Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency
Javid Abdullayev is a senior government official with extensive experience in public administration, strategic planning, and energy sector development.
He currently serves as the Director of the State Agency for Renewable Energy Sources under the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan. In this role, he leads the implementation of the country’s renewable energy strategy, oversees international cooperation initiatives, and supports the development of large-scale renewable energy projects.
Abdullayev was born on May 30, 1973, in Baku. He graduated from Secondary School No. 3 in Baku with a gold medal. Between 1988 and 1990, he studied at the Union Correspondence Mathematics School under the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Moscow State University, graduating with distinction.
He graduated with honors from Baku State University in 1995, where he later continued his academic and pedagogical career. He completed his postgraduate studies ahead of schedule and obtained a PhD (Candidate of Sciences) in Physics and Mathematics.
From 1997 to 2011, he held various academic and administrative positions at Baku State University, including serving as a department head at a Legal Clinic established with the support of the American Bar Association (ABA/CEELI).
Between 2011 and 2017, he held senior roles across several government institutions, contributing to institutional development and regulatory processes in the fields of land management, urban planning, and construction safety.
From 2018 to 2019, he served as Deputy Head of the Strategic Programs and Projects Department at the Ministry of Energy, where he was involved in the development and coordination of strategic energy initiatives. From 2019 to 2022, he acted as an advisor to the Minister of Energy, providing guidance on energy policy and sector reforms.
In 2024, he completed a MicroMasters program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), further strengthening his expertise in energy and related fields.
