Janitha Ekanayake

Eng. Janitha Ekanayake is a seasoned power and energy professional with over two decades of experience in utility-scale thermal and renewable power projects, specializing in Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC), Operations & Maintenance (O&M), and strategic energy management. A First Class Honours Mechanical Engineering graduate with a Commonwealth Executive MBA, he is a Chartered Engineer and International Professional Engineer, and an alumnus of the SABIT Clean Energy Program, USA. As Project Manager of Sri Lanka’s first Waste-to-Energy power plant and currently Assistant Vice President – Operations, he has played a pioneering role in diversifying Sri Lanka’s energy mix through sustainable Waste-to-Energy solutions that integrate renewable power generation with modern waste management. His expertise spans energy diversification, circular economy solutions, sustainable power generation, and operational localization, where he successfully transitioned and sustained plant operations entirely through local technical expertise.
