Bio

Akihisa Kuriyama joined the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) in 2011. He had engaged in supporting the CO2 mitigation projects in the energy sector of Southeast Asian countries and conducted quantitative analysis on the international mechanisms such as the Kyoto mechanism. For the domestic issues in Japan, he worked for analysis to develop scenarios towards a decarbonized society, to assess long and medium-term goals. He also engaged in projects to promote renewable energies such as Japan’s power system analysis and just transition issues.

Alain Dardy is Representative Director and COO of Energy Pool Japan, a Savoy-based SME and leader in its field in Japan in partnership with TEPCO. Energy Pool combines knowledge of industrial processes, Cloud solutions, IoT and algorithms for managing batteries or hydrogen electrolysis in order to enable large consumers, in the short term, to contribute to balancing the electricity grid, and, in the long term, to integrate more renewables at competitive cost. Alain previously held a number of positions at EDF (Electricité de France) and then AREVA (now ORANO/Framatome), ranging from electricity distribution in Moulins-sur-Allier to promoting Franco-Japanese reactors in South-East Asia, or managing the liberalization of the energy market in Slovakia. In between his stints at EDF and AREVA, he got his MBA from INSEAD in Singapore.

Mr. Alamgir Morshed joined Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) as the Executive Director and CEO on March 27, 2022. Prior to this appointment, he was the Managing Director & Head of Financial Institutions at Standard Chartered Bank Bangladesh. As a seasoned banker, Mr. Morshed contributed a span of over 26 years in various senior positions. He has been at the forefront of introducing many pioneering financial risk management and financing solutions.

Alan Kneisz is Global Vice President of Sales and Marketing of Advent Technologies and has been in sales, marketing or business development related roles for over 25 years in Asia, Europe and North America His experience is centred around developing projects related to Megawatt fuel cell power, Renewable Energy applications, Energy Storage, Green Hydrogen production, Critical Back-up, Microgrids and Hydrogen Transport solutions for Trains, Maritime, Trucks and Buses. He has experience in developing Joint Ventures, License agreements and developing new markets globally. He has a Bachelor Degree and an MBA, while also being a thought leader on Hydrogen and Fuel Cells, speaking at over 10 events and conferences per annum.

Alan Kneisz is Global Business Development Director at Cummins Corporation, the worlds largest engine supplier and a global leader in advanced hydrogen fuel cell, storage and electrolysis solutions.

In his role, Alan has been at the forefront of Hydrogen technology deployments by developing Hydrogen Transport solutions, Megawatt fuel cell power systems, Renewable Energy applications, Energy Storage, Hydrogen fueling and other applications. This includes the worlds largest Fuel Cell bus fleets in China, MW power systems, Marine and Rail systems as well as assisting to better understand the planning for the Hydrogen Economy with Government, OEM’s, NGO’s and other Private institutions globally.

Alan has extensive experience implementing green technologies into practical applications throughout Asia Pacific, Europe and Australia with Private and Government institutions and has become a thought leader in promoting the Hydrogen Economy, speaking at approx 10 conference per year explain the advantages of the Hydrogen economy to a broader audience.

He is presently designated as Chief Environmental Management Specialist at the Climate Change Service of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. He is a regular member of the Philippine delegation to the sessions of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the country’s representative to the ASEAN Working Group on Climate Change. He also represents the Philippines at the sessions of the UN Environment Assembly and a member of the Intergovernment Negotiating Committee on the Global Plastics Treaty.

Alex joined the Long Duration Energy Storage Council in 2023 as Director of Policy and Partnerships. He leads the Council's engagement with partners and on policy development to support the deployment of LDES in the power, hydrogen and thermal sectors globally. Previously he was Head of Policy and Research at the International Hydropower Association and before that held a number of roles in the UK government’s energy department, including Head of Contracts for Difference policy, the UK’s flagship renewable energy deployment scheme, delivering auctions for offshore wind and other technologies.

Alex Perera is Deputy Director of WRI's Energy Program and the Corporate Partnership Lead for Energy. Alex has over 20 years of experience in energy policy, finance, and corporate energy strategy. He has built partnerships with the private sector to innovate and scale renewable energy procurement models in the United States, Asia, and Latin America. Prior to joining WRI, he helped found a company called Bigbelly Solar, a renewable energy company that developed solar powered trash compactors that helped cities reduce diesel fuel consumption from trash collection trucks. Alex was a Financial Analyst at the investment bank Bear, Stearns and Co. Inc. where he helped to structure over $1 billion in municipal financing in the utility sector. Alex has an MBA from F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College, and a BA from Boston University. He has written numerous publications on corporate strategy and renewable energy.

Bio

Alex is a marine ecologist who is interested in how biodiversity is distributed in the ocean. He is also interested in human impacts on the ocean and how to manage human activities to mitigate or reduce degradation of marine ecosystems. His work has taken him to the Indian and Southern Oceans and to the Caribbean investigating coral reef ecosystems, both in shallow water and the deep sea, seamounts and deep-sea hydrothermal vents.

The last 23 years of Alex Ablaza’s 38-year professional career has been dedicated to growing energy efficiency and other clean energy technology deployment in 14 Asian markets through the identification, due diligence and financial close of over $3 billion in direct investments, and also through catalytic market and policy interventions. Across Asia and the Middle East, he currently provides energy efficiency expertise with the objective of scaling up energy efficiency capital flows through innovative finance, investment structures and policy reform. He convened and chairs the Asia-Pacific ESCO Industry Alliance and the Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance. He co-founded the Global ESCO Network and co-chairs a taskforce of the global coalition, Mission Efficiency. Wearing his investment hat, he designed and heads Climargy, the world’s pioneer private Super-ESCO aggregator of ESCO project assets. Alex is armed with 35 years of project and corporate management experience, and an educational background in civil engineering (BSCE) and business economics (MBE).

Alexander is a Senior Investment Specialist at the Asian Development Bank, focusing on sovereign and donor backed credit enhancement. He works closely with sector teams as well as banks and private developers. He has over 15 years of experience structuring Public-Private Partnerships in Latin America and Asia. Alexander has brought the guaranteed letter of credit product to ADB which mitigates the payment risks of ADB member countries’ utilities. This product has resulted in more competition and lower tariffs in IPPs. This credit enhancement was recently employed in the 457 MW Sherabad Solar IPP and the 500MW Zarafshan Wind Farm in Uzbekistan. Prior to joining ADB, Alexander was a member of the World Bank’s PPP Group in Singapore and the Project Finance and Guarantees team in Washington DC. He is a fluent in Spanish and speaks basic Russian.

Alfredo Baño Leal is a Senior Energy Specialist at ADB, developing sustainable energy operations in the East Asia region. Previously, he worked at the Independent Evaluation Department of ADB, where he evaluated energy programs and led ADB’s 2009 Energy Policy Evaluation. He has over 15 years of international experience working on energy infrastructure sectors across more than 20 countries in Europe and Asia. Before joining ADB, he worked for the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, he consulted for the World Bank and other international organizations, and worked for an engineering consulting firm in Spain. He is an electromechanical engineer, with majors in electricity generation and power systems, and holds an MBA in Corporate Finance.
