Pradeep Tharakan

Pradeep Tharakan has over 22 years of experience focused on global energy and environmental issues. His primary expertise is in the origination, financing, and delivery of large-scale clean energy investment programs in the public sector; the fostering of inter-governmental and public-private partnerships for effective development action; and development research. Pradeep has worked for the Asian Development Bank (ADB) since 2010. He currently serves as ADB’s Director for Energy Transition and is responsible for guiding ADB’s engagement in industrial decarbonization, managed coal phaseout, critical minerals and clean energy supply chains, offshore wind development, and scaling up climate finance for the energy transition. Over the past decade, Pradeep has been involved in the origination, implementation, and close-out of energy infrastructure projects totaling nearly 4 billion USD. This includes solar parks, large hydropower projects, energy efficiency investments, battery energy storage and cross-border power trade projects. He has also led project facilitation and policy advisory work across a variety of technology areas including solar and wind power, geothermal energy development, carbon capture and storage, rural electrification, and energy efficiency. Pradeep’s research has been published in Nature, Energy Policy, and the Energy Journal, among others. Pradeep has a PhD in Environmental Science, an MBA, and a master’s degree in public policy and administration.
