United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO)

Teddy Monroy is the Country Representative of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in the Philippines. He is a development programme specialist with 15 years of experience in developing and implementing programmes and projects to achieve inclusive socioeconomic growth and environmental protection, with particular attention on harnessing the full potential of sustainable industry development. In recent years, his work has focused on helping transition the country’s productive sectors to an inclusive, globally-competitive, resilient, green, and job-rich economy. Along this line, his priority actions have revolved around promoting industry-related policies, capacity-building, technology transfer, and green financing to: (1) accelerate the development of the country’s National Quality Infrastructure (NQI) and its ecosystem to support exports and participation in global value chains especially for SMEs; (2) facilitate the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies including artificial intelligence; (3) diversify manufacturing and value-added processing to maximize the country’s vast resources in a sustainable manner; (4) prevent plastic pollution even before the wastes are generated through upstream and midstream interventions; and (5) intensify climate action by introducing UNIDO tools on NDC development, advancing renewable energy applications, and decarbonizing heavy industries and the transport sector. In these efforts, he works closely with government and takes advantage of UNIDO’s comparative advantage, global experience and network of partners from the private sector, academe, civil society, key financing institutions, and other development partners. He has a graduate degree in chemical engineering and before joining the United Nations, has worked extensively in the private sector and academe. His experience and exposure working in UNIDO has enriched his knowledge and skills especially in the context of the Asia Pacific region.
