Thematic Track Session 2.2 (Regional Power Trade & Market Integration)
Building Regional Infrastructure for Seamless Power Trade
Tuesday, 3 June 2025
4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. (GMT +8)
Developing robust regional infrastructure is critical to enabling cross-border electricity trade and fostering energy security across Asia. Initiatives like the ASEAN Power Grid and green energy corridors in Central and South Asia aim to connect national grids, enhance system flexibility, and unlock shared renewable resources. However, the complexity of financing, constructing, and harmonizing large-scale interconnection projects continues to pose significant challenges. This session will explore strategies to accelerate infrastructure development, ensure interoperability, and attract investment for cross-border power integration.
Through regional case studies and technical insights, the session will examine the 'development dividend' of the ASEAN Power Grid, and present innovative financing and planning approaches for infrastructure projects. Participants will learn how advanced analytics are enabling cross-border electricity trade between Bhutan, Nepal, and India, and how the Green Power Corridor Framework is being applied to expand clean energy integration. The session will also highlight how green energy corridors in the CAREC region are bridging energy systems across continents, offering a vision for a more interconnected and sustainable energy future.
