Thematic Track Session 2.4 (Regional Power Trade & Market Integration)
Advancing Renewable Energy Integration
Thursday, 5 June 2025
11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. (GMT +8)
As countries across Asia and the Pacific ramp up renewable energy deployment, integrating variable sources like solar and wind into regional power markets presents both opportunities and challenges. Enhancing grid stability, improving market design, and ensuring regional coordination are essential to unlock the full potential of renewables. This session will explore innovative strategies to manage intermittency, optimize cross-border collaboration, and strengthen system resilience--highlighting how regional frameworks and technical solutions are accelerating progress.
The session will feature practical examples of how countries are leveraging energy storage, digital solutions, and modeling tools to enable more flexible and reliable renewable integration. Case studies will include integrating Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) into utility-scale renewable projects in Uzbekistan, energy storage innovations in Sarawak, and modeling-based approaches to derisk 24/7 renewable supply for Indian industries. The session will also highlight recent experiences from Bangladesh in enabling cross-border flexibility and the role of the ASEAN Interconnection Masterplan Study (AIMS III) in strengthening regional cooperation.
