Deep Dive Workshop

Electrifying Cooking - Innovative Approaches and Business Models for Asia and the Pacific

Organized by: Sustainable Energy for All (SEforAll) and Asian Development Bank (ADB)

Wednesday, 5 June 2024

9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. (GMT +8) | Multifunction Hall 3

Countries in the Asia Pacific region have a unique opportunity towards enhancing and greening their national electricity systems and simultaneously promoting the widespread adoption of efficient eCooking technologies to close the clean cooking energy access gap. This approach not only contributes to improved health, gender benefits and addressing environmental degradation. But it also stimulates electricity demand, enhances the business case for new on- and off-grid connections, and reduces dependence on fossil fuels, thereby improving energy security.

This deep dive workshop will discuss innovative approaches in implementing effective and affordable eCooking projects supported by energy transition planning and enabling policy formulations. The session will also explore how both public and private sectors contribute towards embracing clean and efficient technologies such as eCooking (cooking with electricity) powered by resilient and green electricity systems (on and off-grid).

This session will demonstrate the cost effectiveness and climate benefit of eCooking for achieving sustainable development goals around health, gender equality, protection of biodiversity, clean energy and climate action. The increased productivity and creation of opportunities for the private sector and cost saving for users will be discussed.

Furthermore, the session will discuss the unique challenges and opportunities faced by Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the Asia-Pacific region in transitioning their energy systems to incorporate eCooking.
