Session 1.4: Technological Innovation and Smart Integrated Systems

Wednesday, 10 June 2026 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. (GMT+8) Auditorium Hall 1 Organized by ADB

The energy systems of tomorrow will be defined not only by their energy sources but by the intelligence with which they are designed and operated. This session explores how innovative technologies are reshaping what is possible in grid design and operations across Asia and the Pacific. Presenters will share assessments, demonstrations, and frameworks illustrating how technology can build smarter, more adaptive, and more secure energy infrastructure.

Topics include the potential of advanced conductors, dynamic line rating, and storage as a transmission asset to expand network capacity and reduce losses in ASEAN grids; the supply chain and procurement barriers constraining HVDC deployment for regional interconnection; and how demonstration programmes can catalyse the scaling of emerging clean energy technologies that remain stalled between pilot and commercial deployment.
