Thematic Track Session 4.1 (Private Sector and Partnership Financing)

Innovative Financing Mechanisms

Tuesday, 3 June 2025

2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. (GMT +8)

Innovative financing mechanisms are essential to accelerating the clean energy transition across Asia and the Pacific. Instruments such as thematic bonds, blended finance, carbon-linked mechanisms, and blockchain-enabled platforms are helping unlock new sources of capital and attract private sector participation. However, scaling these tools and ensuring their accessibility to diverse stakeholders--particularly in emerging markets--requires enabling policies, risk-sharing structures, and strong public-private collaboration. This session will explore how financing innovation can bridge investment gaps and support inclusive, scalable clean energy solutions.

The session will highlight a range of forward-looking financing models, including the use of blockchain to enable inclusive investments in clean energy, and community-based financing approaches in floating solar PV development. Participants will also gain insights into the application of carbon-linked finance in critical energy transition supply chains, such as nickel in ASEAN, and how green finance is being used to support the early retirement of coal power plants in China. A case on supply chain finance for industrial decarbonization in Indonesia will further demonstrate how finance can drive systemic change across sectors.
