Beyond Transition: Building Secure, Resilient, Inclusive, and Intelligent Energy Systems
8-11 June 2026 | ADB Headquarters, Manila
Technology adoption in underserved communities depends less on technical specifications than on contextual fit—whether a solution supports local livelihoods, is accessible to low-income users, and can be sustained without specialist support. This session examines inclusive models of clean energy technology deployment drawn from diverse country contexts across the region.
Presenters will share lessons from a community-scale clean energy initiative in Sanur, Bali, where integrated on-grid and off-grid solar PV systems address both energy access and livelihood pressures in a coastal tourism economy; evidence from a pilot deployment of swappable battery electric three-wheelers in Multan, Pakistan, showing how battery-swapping can bring purchase costs to ICE parity and cut operating costs for low-income transport workers earning USD 3–5 per day; and experiences from India on how productive use of renewable energy can shift the rural development agenda from mere energy access toward genuine livelihood strengthening in agrifood systems facing climate pressure and market volatility.
