Structuring and Financing Pathfinder Climate Projects in New Sectors

Public and private investments—from governments, multilateral banks, private sector investors, philanthropies, and long-term investors— and new financial structures and products will need to be deployed to accelerate the development of new and innovate solutions in renewable energy, district heating and water sectors.

The session will discuss the following, among others: (i) key challenges in developing climate friendly projects in new sectors including offshore floating solar, battery energy storage systems, district heating and water supply and wastewater treatment; (ii) key risks and potential mitigants for enabling private sector investments; (iii) roles and responsibilities of MDB’s, DMC’s and the private sector to catalyze project development and commercial financing for pathfinder projects in these sectors; and (iv) lessons learnt from ADB’s ongoing interventions
