Beyond Transition: Building Secure, Resilient, Inclusive, and Intelligent Energy Systems
8-11 June 2026 | ADB Headquarters, Manila
The rapid growth of distributed energy resources—including rooftop solar, electric vehicles, and battery storage—is transforming power grids from centralized, unidirectional systems into complex, interactive networks. Managing this complexity in real time requires new approaches to grid visibility, forecasting, control, and market design. This session presents utility-led innovations and market framework proposals from across Asia that demonstrate how smart grid technologies can enable reliable, cost-effective integration of distributed energy at scale.
Presenters will discuss how one utility managing a grid where non-conventional renewables account for approximately 49% of installed capacity is deploying advanced solar forecasting, real-time monitoring, and intelligent curtailment to maintain stability; and how power trading frameworks can be designed to coordinate distributed energy resources—including rooftop solar, electric vehicles, and demand-side flexibility—in distribution systems that were built for a very different energy landscape.
