Operations Session
Energy Security and Resilience in the Pacific Region
Thursday, 5 June 2025
4:00 - 5:30 p.m. (GMT +8)
Private sector involvement is key for sustainable investment in power sector. Ongoing electrification efforts, rapid growth of tourism industry, and steady economic growth resulted in increasing power demand growth. Increasing price volatility and supply disruption of diesel and oil remain major cause of high cost of energy which directly impacts economy and household. Frequent extreme weather events in the region is another threat for uninterrupted supply and power asset security. Renewable energy penetration into the power system is increasing but grid integration is becoming major challenge for the utilities in the region.
This session aims to discuss how to scale up private sector involvement in the pacific power sector in response to rapid demand growth and reduce cost of energy, and enhance public sector role and necessary regulatory reforms in mobilizing private capital for generation, strengthening transmission grid network for power evacuation, and increasing climate resilience of power infrastructure. The session will exchange lessons learned and policy direction to crowd in private sector investment for energy security and resilience in the region.
